CHALLENGE

Well things have been QUIET here. It has been 11 days since the Marathon and I have yet to even finish POSTING pics. (coming soon...I promise) I have had a roller coaster of emotions. I was really feeling like after MORE rest I would be ready good to go. On the ROAD to another shot at my 3:45. I had even found a FLAT fast race on July 4th! My sweet hubby was ready to make the trek and CHEER me on as I would RUN another 26.2. My hubby knows how much I want it and he is even beginning to DREAM about me running. Too funny!

So today I tried to run...and felt that pain again on top of my foot. There is still some swelling but I felt like it was going down. I was bummed and decided I was going to get into the doctor TODAY!

In a very crazy busy day...my hubby helped me make it happen and I got into the doc. At first they thought it MIGHT be a stress fracture. Ummm WHAT? I had to totally fake smile and nod my head during that conversation while my MIND was racing in a million directions. Fortunately for me after X RAYS they ruled that out!

Instead it looks like I have some irritated tissue/tendons that are inflamed and not happy. As I run they are being stretched and crunched..increasing the irritation. BOO!!

So my "one more shot" at 3:45 to B.Q is GONE! By the time I am able to TRAIN and run Marathon #3 I will need a 3:40. YIKES!! Not gonna lie...bums me out!

Sooo here is the CHALLENGE!! I usually LOVE and embrace challenges, but not this one! No running for 10 days! Walking is ok...but only at a slow pace. I feel confident IF I can do this...as well as ice and rest, then I will be good to go!

Now that another marathon is not an option I am planning on running Rock N Roll Seattle...on June 25th. That will give me 3 weeks to RUN/TRAIN before 13.1and SEE bloggy friends! So please help me with any ideas to help me keep some of my fitness level. Bike, Swimming and Elliptical are out. So I need some creative ways to get my heart rate up. Help me to stay off my feet, but stay fit! HELP!!

Off to ICE!!

So sorry to hear this Harmony. I get this disappointment. I do. Hoping you heal quickly and your foot gets the rest it needs. I remember how frustrating it was to not be able to do anything when I had worked SO hard to Boston qualify at the Portland Marathon. It was really heart breaking to finally admit to myself that I wouldn't be running and would barely be moving around. Really challenged me in many ways. Why is swimming not an option? That would have been my first suggestion. rowing machine? Do you have a gym membership? Thinking of you Harmony!

I am so sorry about this! I hoping that you heal quickly! As frustrating as it will be not to run, it will be a time for your body to rest up and get ready for big things! You WILL get that BQ one day! Don't stop believing!!

seriously injuries SUCK! Sorry you cant run - I'm in the same boat right now, kind of. My achilles is hurting bad so I have to take some time off...and I have a marathon in less than 3 weeks. Nice. Good luck recovering.

As someone who has pretty much spent all but six weeks of 2011 crosstraining, there's lots you can do. Swim, water run, bike, etc. the one thing I would be cautious with is the elliptical, but you can always try it.

Let the new Boston standards motivate you to work even harder next marathon cycle. You'll get there!!

Can you do the rowing machine? Kicks my behind every time I do it at the gym.

Well PHEW for no stress fracture but 10 days of no running is no fun. :( I hope it does the trick. I wish I had some advice, but I am at a loss beyond biking, swimming or elliptical. Good luck!!

I was looking so forward to cheering you on July 4th:( I'm so sorry Harmony!!!! Like you I am scared when my chance to start running next week arrives I won't be able to. I still have pain when I even try to trot across the parking lot:(. It is frustrating when we know that our marathons are what got us injured and we didnt even get the times we want:(. I keep trying to look at the big picture of life long running and know this will pass. And one more thing sweet girl.... You CAN and WILL run a 3:40 for BQ. Don't limit yourself!!! You are more than capable of that. It makes the dream that much bigger. A quote for you " work as if everything depends on you, pray as if everything depends on the Lord". Love you xx nicole

I'm so glad its not a stress fracture! Yikes! You can totally keep your stamina up with non-running. Make intervals happen on the elliptical 1 min hard, 1 easy, 2 min hard, 2 easy etc.

Do you have anti-inflamm's to take??

Sorry about your nasty foot! I hope the ten days helps. Although, I am glad you will be running RnR now, sorry I can be selfish! So, yes, I am still willing to get the bib for you.

The only suggestion I can think of is shadow boxing, sitting down like Moses did on The Biggest Loser!

Oh so sorry, Harmony!! that is so frustrating! Hang in there. We'll get our BQs even with the new standards. It's definitely more daunting but let's not let it stop us. Praying you heal up quick.

I hope your foot heals up soon. I'm surprised that swimming isn't a cross-training option for you right now. I second Amanda's option of rowing.

Big bummer on no running:( But, I know how it feels and there are lots of things you can do...I would say swim should be up there...bummer that you can't?!?
I got my maniac status by running 2 marathons in 8 days (I wasn't trying to BQ though:)
There are different levels you can achieve by different things...www.marathonmaniacs.com I believe is the web site!
Hope you are feeling better soon!!

So sorry to hear about your foot injury. I have been in the same boat. I'm having a peroneal tendenitis and hamstring issues. I have had to take some time off from running to. My 20k is in 4 days. I'm not feeling like this is going to be a pretty race. Due to not being able to run much before hand. So do what the doc says and rest that foot. I did the elliptial and weight traing dvd.
