Think Again

Today was my 13.1 test run in my marathon training! 34 degrees and sunny! I was excited and hopeful to be able to see some improvement. I set out in the morning but did not get far fast. By 2 miles into the run I knew I was going to have to go to plan B. There was compact snow and ice covering the trail. I tried to run on the side of the trail but the snow was hard and crunchy and killing my knee and ankle. So I turned around and set off for another route and trail. When I got to the next trail it was also covered in snow! UGH!!! So I then opted to run through town. Start, stop, start, stop! How do people do this? Then to make matters worse I forgot to restart my Garmin so I was unsure of time and mileage. At this point I had given up any chance of a "good time". I starting to worry about my left butt cheek. It was freezing and almost numb. Then I felt it and realized that my water bottle was spilling down my back side and had soaked my shirt. Nooo! I have no idea how long that had been going on. Nice! My ankle was throbbing and my knee was screaming! I was so done! I ran a few more miles (short of 13) and then I wanted to go HOME!

Time was limited, ice bath and then off to take Lovely L to a movie party for her Brownie troop. So as I ate popcorn and had my diet coke I was plotting on my 5K comeback when we got home.

That is just what I did. Came home changed my clothes and went out the door. I ran 3.1 miles in 24:00 minutes! A P.R. and then mental lift and confidence I needed! The powers of buttered popcorn!!

So ended the day with 14 miles and comfort in knowing that bad runs can always be followed with good runs!

Think Again! (this was my "intense look" attempt...what is up with my mouth??)
Check out my Brooks EZ Run T-shirt I WON!! I love it!

Those conditions do not sound fun at all! Way to plug it out and bust out a quick 5K on the treadmill!
