The Long Ride

A few snap shots.

These pics make me laugh. Like my "busty" first pic. I like my imaginary coat "rack". What? I also love the shot of my buddy Collette fixing my seat. Love her cute braids! Today I finally found the time (and courage) to venture out on my longest bike ride ever! With Rev3 Portland just weeks away I am starting to stress a bit. My friend Collette is great at so many things and biking is just one of them. As usual she was patient with me all morning and led the way! The first 13 miles were tough and I was feeling a bit concerned that I wasn't going to be cut out to do this. At 13 miles we stopped and C made some "major" (1.5 in) seat adjustment. This felt huge and helped my with my reach and leg extension. We made much better time on the way back and had a great time. Probably my best memory will be falling! Yes, I fell. As we came upon an intersection (we were on a sidewalk)I unclipped my right foot. I was thrilled but it took just seconds and I began to tip to the left. Well my left foot was clipped in so there was nothing to stop my fall. So just like that I was down. I made a little girly scream and got back up as quickly as possible. I looked around and spotted two spectators. The good thing is they didn't seem to interested. My heart was racing and I even had a few tears. But we were off again...I struggled to clip in but eventually got it! Another highlight was the hill that I thought I was getting out of. As we rode on the trail I saw a huge hill (road) in the distance and I said to C, "Well at least we don't have to go up that thing. She happily responded, "Oh we do..and pointed to the trail running along the road". UGH! So we had some up and down and flat and it was good. Felt my heart rate climbing and pounding in fear a few times but it was fun! After the 26+ mile ride my good buddy Quads was there waiting for me upon our return. We then ran 4 miles together. I felt WEAK and wobbly but amazingly held a good pace. So there you have it my first BIG GIRL Brick. I am not sure if I will ever be a real triathlete but I guess I will take it one ride and run at a time. I ran 13.1 on Saturday so I feel good that I was able to rally with a BRICK as well this weekend! And yes I know swimming is part of it but you don't even want to get me started! :) Hope everyone had a blessed weekend!

The journal of a triathlete! You fell...only real bikers do that! Great job on the brick! I'm doing one tomorrow. Portland, here we come!

Great job Harmony! I love to spin, but riding a bike on a road freaks me out because of clipping in and out. I think that I would fall all of the time.

Great job!! I am a one-trick pony... I hate the bike and have nowhere to swim (no indoor pools here and snow 8 months of the year!) So I am super impressed with people who do tri's and especially cyclists! You are doing great! :)

Nice job! My husband wants me to get a bike so we can ride together and I'm terrified. I know I will both hurt myself and someone else!

Great job Harmony!! I haven't rode a bike in soo long it seems but I know when starting out its tough doing it on the street. I have a mountain bike so I usually rode on trails but its been around 6 years!! Holy moly I just added that up! I need to get back on a bike sometime, its a great workout!! Wonderful first big brick :) I think I would have a tough time running 4 miles after riding 26, eeek!!

I seriously STILL fall over on my bike every once in a while when I try to stop, even after riding a ton for almost 2 years now. In fact, I fell over Monday afternoon and have a huge scrape and swollen knee to prove it! It happens to the best of us :) Good luck with tri training...can't wait to follow it and your race!
