Thirsty Thursday: Your Hands - JJ Heller

This song has been on my heart and inspires me...to seek GOD in all I do. All I do good, bad and in-between I am always in His Hands.

(P.S. J.J. Heller has some amazing songs! Check her out!)

As Lent begins today it is a time we practice giving up something so we refocus our lives on God. By fasting from certain things, we practice denying ourselves.

I have decided to give up McDonalds and choose healthier options. This is going to be tricky because MC is my emotional pit stop. (Don't laugh) So it will be challenging I am sure. I am excited to see what God may reveal in this time. May waistline may even benefit as well.

I did debate giving up my blog but feel like it has been a place of growth and I want to keep sharing and processing. So I will still be around!

Something exciting that my church is doing is a daily LENT calendar. So everyday there is something to DO. It is going to be interesting and I would love to share/discuss experiences with you.

There will be things to fast from as well as things to incorporate in your day. Come on I know you LOVE a challenge! Let me know if you are going to give it a shot! We all make work out plans, running plans, diet plans, why not take time to grow/train spiritually as well?? Heck I will even throw in one of my blog stickers!

It's just one day...can you imagine what you could experience in 40 days. ARE YOU IN?

Here are some things on the calendar:

Don't text, just call"
Go for a walk/jog
Spend 30 minutes with someone under the age 5 or over 70
Read Jonah 4:1-4 and do something you enjoy
Do something you have been putting off
Don't use sarcasm today
Fast from the radio or music
Watch the sunset or sunrise
Only drink water and pray for those in the world who don't have clean water

To get you started!
DAY ONE (Wed.): Write a prayer to God explaining the habits, behaviors and sins you would like to leave behind/die

DAY TWO (Thurs.): Meet or talk with a friend about the prayer you wrote yesterday.

DAY THREE (Fri.): Don't text today- just call.

Also if you have been waiting for a sticker...let me know? There were 10 responses but not everyone emailed me mailing info!

Thanks Harm! I LOVE this. I'm thinking about giving up 1 hour of sleep to get up and get my workouts in(they are my prayer time, so maybe my days will start better)...I'm NOT morning person!

Love the idea... Love the song.. I listen to "The Message" in sirius radio and there are some AMAZING songs on that station. I re-upped my subscription partially for that.

You are GREAT!

Thanks for sharing; I love Thirsty Thursdays!

JJ Heller is one of my favorites. The family and I are going to see her live in a few weeks; I can't wait.

Great ideas for Lent. I love the calendar idea.

Thanks to a good friend who gave me a gift card to iTunes, I OWN JJ's music! :) Love it.

I like the idea of daily challenges for Lent. I may jump in for some of them-- thanks for posting!

I've never practiced Lent before, but I've been feeling called to practice more traditional acts that will build my reverence and teach my children too. I'm going to give up coffee... and think of some other things to give up :)
