Thirsty Thursday

Blogging is cool! You laugh, cry, share, tease, grow and learn here! So I really wanted to gain that same experience with something that is immensely more important to me that running and that is my walk with God!

So I was feeling a little thirsty. You know what it's like after a long run when you finally get to bring that bottle to you mouth and quench your thirst. It doesn't matter how it gets in there....we just all know we need it!

I have been Thirsty to get in God's word! A longing of sorts to know God more. Hence the THIRSTY THURSDAY title. God is referred to as the LIVING WATER and I wanted to learn more about what that means. I thought it may be a fun way to start this series.

So I began with JOHN 3:5
I tell you the truth no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and spirit.

EZEKIEL 36:25
Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean, I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you, I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you will be careful to observe my commandments.

JOHN 4:13
Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. Whoever drinks the water I shall give him will never thirst.

I love how in one sentence it shifts from everyday to everlasting life.

Jesus is the fountain of living water the source of life.

In looking at these verses and different stories I can across a commentary on God as the Living Water and I this made total sense to me.
Don Whitney author of the book Ten Questions to Diagnose your Soul shares different kinds of thirsts.

1. Thirsty Dry Soul: Experienced the living water but keep find yourself filling from the fountains of the world and too little from the River of God. You know God but can't seem to sense him. Why is that God sometime floods the soul and other times we thirst? When I thought about this is reminded me that no matter what our perception is God promises that he will never leave nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5)

2. Thirsty Empty Soul: Void of God and constantly in the pursuit of happiness to fulfill emptiness. Never satisfied. This again made reminded me that we can only be filled by God's love and grace. (John 14:4)

3. Thirst Satisfied Soul: Experienced God's living water and want more. It is like the longing is intensified the closer you draw to God. It is the thirst to be thirsty.

Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.

There are so many stories and scripture around the idea of water. As athletes we would never neglect our hydration needs. I have read many dehydration horror stories! We all seem to do our best to stay hydrated so that we give our best performance!

I want to do the same spiritually! I want to be in that well of life and aware that I can share and that gift! It is a power source where all my needs are met! How I shudder to think how I would get through life without it?

So Thirsty Thursday readers (if you made it this far) grab some paper, a bible or google scripture if you don't have a bible and begin LOOKING into the stories from some of the verses I shared. You should meet a man name Nicodemus and a woman at the well. Spend some time over a the next few days processing what you read. Take notes, jot questions and we will go from there.

Of the THREE types of souls (and there could be many more)...where are you??

I feel refreshed and satisfied today! Thank you God for the overwhelming sense of your presence and I pray that you touch each heart that reads this today and quench their thirst! In your name, AMEN!

I've been feeling like a wave lately, being tossed from worldy ideals to Godly ideals, but being in the word makes me feel more like I'm standing on firm ground...funny huh? :) I'm so diving in and drinking up all the living water he has to offer me, and unlike the germ fearing world, I'll share this water with everyone.

thanks so much for this. Going to be honest, right now, I haven't spent the time in His word and with Him to feel 'satisfied'. Unfortunately, I'm in a season of 'thirsty dry'. Really want to dig in and crave more of Him on a daily basis...because when we experience him, touch Him, even if for a brief moment...we can't help but want more. Now to make it a priority. Funny how I can get up early to run but not to hang out with the Lord.... must change that! :)

Great post!
I am a thirst satisfied soul. I have at times been all three.
It's not always easy to cultivate or ignite that thirst. A relationship with Christ can be compared to running. Some days I don't feel like putting my shoes on and running, but I know once I get out there and get in a few miles I will feel better, I will have a stronger running foundation, and my endurance will grow. Communing with God and reading His word is the same way. I don't always feel like reading or praying but I know that once I do, my spirit will be lifted and I will have a stronger presence of God in my life. The bible says to "be transformed by the renewing of your mind."(Romans 12:2) The only way to do that is by pressing in and drinking from the word.
Thanks for the good word!
