Today I did it! I ran 10 miles without needing to stop. The first three miles were hard but then by mile 5 I felt great. I felt like I could run forever. By mile 8 I almost felt suspicious of my knee feeling good. Could this be? Just last week I had to walk 3 times when trying to run 10. I finished early
(1hr 30 min) and beat the heat. When I got home I attempted my first ice bath. Not sure if I stayed in there long enough? Hoping that taking care of myself will keep me injury free as I am trying to come back. I have been using my roller every day at least twice a day and I really do think it has made a difference. I have also been doing my hip excercises trying to strengthen my mama hips (when I remember).
I did come home with a serious arm rash...not sure what went wrong but I will definitely use the glide next time. Tomorrow is a rest day and then an easy 4 on Tues. My 3 blessings are at the grandparents so I am so excited to be able to run WHENEVER I want for the next few days! Yippee! I am also hoping to get some time with my hard working hubby!

QUESTION: Is it right to get in an ice bath and then take a shower?? I tried to keep the water cool in my shower but it was definitely not ice cold. Should I shower and then ice?

Great news! Sounds like things are moving in a positive direction for you. I shower after my ice bath, keeping the water cool and recover just fine.
Enjoy your free time this week!
Sounds like you are over the hump!
Glad to hear you are on the mend!
I don't know much about the shower/ice bath situation...I know that icing reduces swelling, so if your shower was cool you are probably fine.
Glad you had a great run. It seems like I always need to get a mile or two under me before I start to feel great
So glad for you..what a great feeling! I always shower post ice bath and I think it's probably fine.
I always shower after the ice bath... But more because I need to warm up lol!
Way to go on your 10 miler!!!
I've only done an ice bath once but I showered after.
I'm a new follower :) I love running for two reasons. When I run alone it gives me time to myself and it allows me to clear my mind. There's nothing like it. When I run with others it allows me to get to know my friends better. For some reason it seems that conversations had on runs are better than other ones.
Also, it doesn't matter if the shower after an ice bath is hot or cool. You won't undo the good with a hot shower.....or at least this is what my college basketball trainer said.
I was wondering the same exact thing after my long run Saturday! I showered after and kept it cool...
I'm a new follower - I run for sanity (stay at home mom of 4 kids).
Way to go!
I tend to ice bath, then shower. Normal temp. shower.
My friend who is a massage therapist recommended to me to ice bath for 20 minutes, then hot bath for 15, then ice again for 10. I am pretty sure a hot/warm shower after 20 minutes in the ice bath is just fine! Good job and getting back out there!
Great progress in a week. Keep it up!
whoohoooooo
