Pancake Magic

OK so last night I tossed and turned as I had a mental battle of when and how I was going to get my 8 miles in today. Hubby was planning on working all day and my running buddy is nursing a sad toe and was going to be unable to join me. I woke up at 5:30 and it was windy and rainy so I went back to bed. I fell back asleep and didn't wake up again until 8:00. When I came downstairs my hubs was already cooking a big stack of pancakes. The rain was going to keep him home and he would see if the sun would make an appearance later. I was so happy I thought I should just go and get it my miles in, but my cute family all sitting at the table made me want to stay. So I ate 4 pancakes and had some water. It was very yummy...my hubby really does make the most beautiful pancakes. The only problem was I didn't know how this would play a role in my 8 miles. I waited about an hour and then took off. I felt great even with some rain and sprinkles I was feeling good. The first mile is fairly flat and the next two miles have a series of 3 nice hills. Despite the hills when I looked at Frenchie (AKA Garmin Forerunner) it was right at the 3.1 mark and my time was 26:26!! This seemed awesome considering I just climbed 3 hills. YES!! This gives me hope and I think may have been a P.R.?? Once I hit four and turned around time was flying and I was enjoying all the rolling green hills. I kept debating in my head...slow down or try to hold this pace??? I was thinking about my half and marathon and what I would wear and I imagined wearing a shirt that said..."For God's Glory". Ultimately that is why I run. It is why I work. It is why I am a friend, wife and mother. I want all I do to Glorify God. It's not to TOOT my own horn and say I'look what I can do, but yet to say..."anything is possible with Christ". Anyways with two miles to go, the pancakes started to churn and my tummy was cramping but I was so close to being done I was able to ingnore it.

So here's my time....check out my last pancake cramp miles!!!
Mile 1 8:17
Mile 2 8:33
Mile 3 8:22
Mile 4 7:20
Mile 5 8:23
Mile 6 8:20
Mile 7 7:59
Mile 8 7:46

So what does this mean?? This is FAST for me....so exciting! Should I have gone slower? What should I shoot for next week's nine? So much to think about. I am thinking next week I will take some GU and water?? I also just wanted to thank Amanda AKA,MissZippy for giving me some running tips. It really meant a lot. Thoughts???

OK I am off to the shower and to the "bathroom". Have a great week and wonderful MOTHER'S DAY!

I think eating pancakes again would work-- but the key is hubby making them!!! Lucky you. :)

Hills are looking greener... let me know when you're doing another near home run so I can "shoot" you!

I may have a shirt for you in the near future. I'm starting a non profit to help bring God into the running world through a wearing a T-shirt at a race. I'll let you know when I have them...will be soon! :)

Congrats on the great run. Not every run can be energizing so when you get a good one, be proud and remember you CAN do it :)

Definitely have access to water and nutrition (gu, beans, etc) when you are running over an hour. Now go kick tail on your 9 miler next weekend!

Thanks for the comment on my blog. I was super excited about my half PR. Expecially since it was TOTALLY unexpected :)
Had a 5k tune up race this past weekend that I just finished the write up on and then another one in two weeks along with a Duathlon (Gear West Duathlon) Don't feel well prepared for the bike portion as I've only been on it like 4x since last September :-P

Sweet pace!! That is super fast!!
A for the God's glory and all that, I will just say there were so many people in my OKC Marathon that had shirts with some sort of scripture wirtten on the back and I am certain each one helped me get a little further. I especially like the one "Let me run with endurance the race which God has laid before me". there were so many more and I would repeat them to myself until I read another one or another thought crossed into my mind. It was literally like I was praying almost the whole time. Truly magical! "I can do all things through Christ...!!" Awesome post!

"when I run, I can feel His pleasure." - Eric Liddel

I know what you mean. Its taken me to the age of 25 to realize that running is part of His purpose for me. So run I shall!

great post!
