First Open Water Sprint

When my sweet friend Jill said she had an extra entry into the Dilettanten Tri a few weeks ago I knew I needed to TRI to make it happen. Swimming and biking is very new to me and I really needed to get in the open water before Rev3 Portland. I had no idea what was to come...(excuse the Tammy Faye Baker eye. I had a leaky goggle...oops) So many things to remember. Transition was a bit stressful, trying to be sure I had everything prepped and ready. I felt pretty good during the swim. Yes I did get a few elbows and kicks but it wasn't as bad as I thought. I was really happy with my sighting. I stayed right on track and was able to hit my marks well. When I ran out of the water to get to the bike I was smiling. Yay! The swim was over. I made it out of my wet suit and grabbed my shoes and helmet. I was off! It was a bit scary and people kept passing me. I don't really get biking. I am moving my legs as fast as they will go but I am yet I am not moving as fast as I need to be. I really just wanted the bike to end. My buddy Jill whizzed past me and shouted something but I couldn't hear her. I just smiled and waved. When I was in transition getting ready to run I FINALLY found out what she was trying to tell me. My sunglasses were sticking straight up in the air on my helmet. UGH! Hello dork! I am surprised that with ALL the people that passed me that no one let me know! I can't wait to see the pics..between my racoon eyes and glasses it should be comical. Running was tough but dreamy all the same. My Garmin was acting weird so I just starting running. Little did I know I was running a 7:40 pace with hills. It felt like I was running through mud..and a bit wobbly. I focused on my breathing(no iPods)and finished strong. When I finally made it to the finish I was so happy! Of course I was tired and wondering how in the world I would ever be able to survive an OLYMPIC! I am so happy that Jill will be there with me (well she will be ahead of me somewhere, but there all the same) I am also pumped that my friend Marnee with be there doing the HALF! SMILE!! P.S. Jill WON first place in her division! Holla!! Some stats: Swim 9:09 (very happy with this) Bike 58.55 (not so happy) Run 23:45 (happy) It was a whirlwind trip. It was a blessing to hang with Jill and be able to just share and talk. I love how God works! Back on the road...I knew that I would be back in a week for Seattle Rock N Roll. Sorry for the random formatting. I think blogger needs and upgrade!

Great Job Harmony!! I think you did awesome!! My stepmom and stepbrother really want me to do a Sprint Tri with them but I just don't have the confidence for it! I think if I start biking regularly and swimming more than maybe. I think the biking scares me the most which is weird since most people say it's the swim. But I grew up with a pool and was always in the lake so that could be why the water doesn't bug me. You totally rocked the run!! Wow!! Just think what your 5k time would be with fresh legs!! :)
