Sunshine, friends, & 18 miles

Published with Blogger-droid v1.6.5

Today I was lucky enough to be able to join two friends for a long run..OUTSIDE! I was just along for the ride so I followed their pace and it worked out great.

If you can't tell from my lovely picture (fuel stop)...it was sunny and I needed a hat or shades and didn't have either one. Excuse my squint! I was joined by my inspiring friend Lisa and Rock Star BLONDE PONY! Why are they so tan and I am glowing white?? I was happy that I had my ear warmer later...because by mile 7 the wind was intense and we were running straight into the wind.

Overall a AMAZING run.
BUT....

I am a bit concerned about my right achilles tendon. It has been painful to the touch and super tender. My right side of my ankle has been hurting off and on and now it has moved the back part of my lower leg/back of ankle. The last 4 miles today it was hurting! I am not sure what to think or do? I am icing but even that hurts because it is tender. Maybe strained? Any suggested stretches? Ideas?

MILES 18.5
TIME 2:45:41
PACE 8:57

I am planning on doing a short recovery run tomorrow and then rest on Monday and see how I feel. Thoughts?

I am sure it is nothing that REST that can't fix but I don't want to lose my mileage? Right now I am just basking in getting through another LONG RUN! Thank you Lisa and Jess for such a great start to the day!

On another note...have you checked out a WARRIOR DASH race?? My hubby and I signed up for one in July and I am sooooo excited!! Not your typical race! Here's to diversifying! Wanna join? More on this coming soon!!

Nice! You ladies are so speedy!

If it was me, I'd skip the recovery run (can you bike instead?) and REST. That's just me. I might be overly cautious bc of past events.

Aw, you look great Casper! he he! Just kidding! I stole this pic and linked it!

You finished strong--dang!! Good job!!

I'm with Kerrie: ICE--there is still a lot of time left before the mary--don't injure yourself (no Seattle repeats, okay?)

When my achiles gets painful on my left side it's usually my calves that are actually tight. I've been doing some yoga moves to stretch it out and make it more flexable. Make that a target spot to stretch and massage after runs. For now I would rest it and ice/heat it. Give it a couple days and see how it feels.

I am super jealous! I really want to do a warrior dash, there isn't one that is close to me though..I'd have to travel 3 hours for the neartest one :(
Nice work on your 18-miler!!

Sounds fantastic! Congratulations!!!

I hope the achilles feels better! Have not had that issue so I'm sorry I don't have anything to offer.

I would work on your calves, either with a foam roller, or a rolling pin or something, they're probably tight. Hope they're feeling better, nice run!!!!
