Can we be friends?

So life has been crazy. It felt rushed playing catch up from the holidays as well as try to get the kids back into the swing of things. Today I went to the gym and ran a solid 5 miles and then tinkered around with weights. I began chatting with a gal and it was going great. We had a few things in common...UNTIL I asked her if she ran. She said "Oh yes I run". I then told her I was gearing up to begin training for my second marathon. She then looked at me like I was a crazy women, and quickly said, "I don't run marathons". It was like a brick wall went up and we went back to our own thing. WHAT? Something that you work so hard for can also be something that separates you from others. It was kind of sad a moment, but I will be friendly again another day. Lesson learned...maybe I will ease into sharing that info. next time. I guess you don't meet marathoners every day. Geesh!

So earlier in the week I mentioned that I have a
NEW,(my first) RUNNING COACH. My first assignment was to run a 5K as fast as I could to help with creating my training plan.
So I would have liked to run outside but there wasn't really any safe place to run. SNOW, SNOW and more SNOW everywhere!

I went to the gym and jumped on a treadmill and RAN:
3.1 miles in 24:38! 7:57 ave.
I was very happy with the time (a P.R.), but felt like I could have gone harder. I have this fear of running out of steam...but hope I will get better at understanding pace and speed.

My official start date for training is 1/16! I am excited and nervous to start this journey again but know that 26.2 is possible for me! If you are running a spring marathon let me know....I need mental training buddies!

So back to the friend thing. I have met a new friend in the last year, an unexpected blessing! It is pretty cool because that friend is going to be my coach. It is going to be FUN!!
Think big, high five,and BQ.
The first person to GUESS who my mystery coach will be will WIN a cute SWEATY BAND!!

NOTE: If you are a local blogger I may have already spilled the beans about my COACH...so please don't give it away!

Start thinking!

I have the same fear of running out of steam and then at the end of a short run like a 5k I usually feel like I could have given much more at the start.

If those were hints "think big tall high five" then it's gotta be Tall Mom.

That would be awesome!

I have no idea who your coach would be, but I'm excited for your new adventure! I don't understand why someone wouldn't talk to you after you mentioned training for a marathon. I have a lot of respect for marathoners and probably would've already done one if it weren't for my hip issues! For now, biking is the workout I'm loving! I think people get intimidated too easily, which is something they need to get over!

Oh, it has to be Tall Mom. I think that's super for both of you.
I think it's so sad that your conversation at the gym was closed at the mention of "marathon". Some people can be so stubborn.

nothing like starting the new year with marathon training! I agree with the others, your trainer has got to be Mel : )

Wow what is with people? So sorry you were snubbed.. Nice that you have good FRIENDS to support you through your next 26.2 journey.

I can't guess because I already know ;)

I know, I know! I went straight to my suspected source and confronted her, the Gonzaga hoops standout! :)

I think your coach is Tall Mom. that would be so cool to have her as a coach!

How weird was that woman at the gym who got all strange when you said you run marathons. sad that she acted that way.
