No...not the TOE!

So on Tuesday I stubbed my toe in the pool at P.T. on this weird lip thing as I was trying to tame the fire hose. It hurt...BAD! But of coures I played it cool. Well today I noticed that it was hurting and I kept trying to wiggle and POP it in to place. So when I finally looked at it I saw WHY it is hurting. Yes I think I broke my toe. Not really...I think?? But I jammed it pretty bad. It is swollen, bruised and kind of looks like a bone is not happy right at the joint. WHAT??? So close to freedom...and this? I am crossing my fingers it will be OK. Silly little toe, don't even think you are going to stand in my way! P.T. tomorrow so I get to run! (hoping the toe will be good to go) Yippee!! Who knew running in a bathing suit could be so much fun?

QUESTIONS: Does anyone know how calorie burn works in water?? Am I burning more, same, less when I run for 25 minutes??

Anyone have any TOE remedies?

I can't answer either question. :( Hope the toe mends itself overnight.

I'd be curious to know the answer to your water calorie thing too. Interesting...

I "think" I broke my toe once too... took months to heal. But you're not gonna let that stop you!

I've broken some toes before and if you think it's broken it most likely is! Those toes don't move like normal toes should, but I had foot issues already, so I don't know what it's like to have "normal" feet or toes!

I broke my big toe before. It took awhile to heal but I mangles it pretty bad. It still pops once in awhile but doesn't cause any issues. I hope your doesn't cause you any trouble.

I don't have a clue on the calorie thing but I'm really curious now to know what the answer is.

maybe slightly misaligned/dislocated it?? I have no idea how to remedy that.

calorie expediture in water. I have no idea, but I'd assume its slightly more due to resistance? Google it!

OUCH! You'll know if it's broken, it will have a nasty black and blue and it hurts!!! There's really not much you can do for it.

thanks for your comment about my marathon, I'm in week 6 of training, and realized I never made an "announcement" about it on my blog! : )

Hm, I teach water aerobics and for some reason this is what I was thinking (definitely not an expert though: You may burn up to 250 calories by walking for 30 minutes in water up to your chest. To burn that many calories you have to move your arms around in the water

•Land walking: 135 calories
•Deep water walking; 264 calories
•Jogging on land: 240 calories
•Deep water jogging: 340 calories

If that is right then it is awesome! You just have to move those arms too! Do you take your heart rate? That can tell you more about exertion too. I know if i walk on land for 20 min my heart rate is not as high as it is when I walk in the water for 20 min. Run it by your PT!

So sorry about the toe! Hope it heals real quick!

I also just found this...and Kerrie you could be interested in this too with your shin fracture:

1 hour swimming vigourously = 758 cals burned

1 hour swimming slow/mod = 551 cals burned

1 hour aerobics high impact= 482 cals burned

1 hour water aerobics = 275 cals burned

1 hour water jogging = 551 cals burned

I'm sure there are considerations such as weight and fitness level, heart rate ect but this is a rough start for you! Looks like a good workout!
